NorthHaving begun playing percussion is his school jazz band, Davy has played a wide variety of musical genres with bands like the Squibs, 30 Footers and Mojo Pep.
In the early 1990’s he joined the Scottish folk band, The Old Blind Dogs, bringing congo’s, djembe and talking drums to the mix, underpinning Jonny Hardies fiddle and Ian F Benzies vocals and accompanied by Grant McMillan's cittern & bass.
Following six critically acclaimed albums and seven years touring Europe and North America with the Dogs, Davy became a well known percussionist in Scotland's vibrant Traditional music scene.
He is also a highly accomplished singer songwriter as can be heard from his debut solo album 'Dancing in the Shadows', released in 1997 , followed by ‘Jellytown’ in 2003 with his band, the Pictones.
More recently (2012), MOONSHINE was released, a long awaited follow up to THE BLUE LAMP and UP IN THE AIR, the much loved 1990’s albums by Jonny Hardie, Gavin Marwick and Davy Cattanach (Old Blind Dogs, Iron Horse, Catford, Bellevue Rendezvous, Unusual Suspects).
Another collaboration with Jonny and singer/songwriter Steve Crawford resulted in the album ‘Chronicles’ under the band name Catford.
Alongside writing and playing, Davy also teaches SCAT classes and has been involved in several theatre productions as both composer and musician.
Recently he has been collaborating with musician Paddy Buchanan recording and gigging some of their original new material, having just finished recording with the fabulous Jenny Sturgeon Band.
